Digital Glimpses of NH4 or AH17

Last week I travelled on the Kolhapur – Pune route of NH4 /AH17. Its a great route to travel on. Currently the 6 laning is under progress between Pune-Satara so some diversions make it boring sometimes.

This particular part of highway have 2 Ghats and few scenic hilly patches. All teo ghats are between Pune – Satara. First is Katraj ghat. Old one is a two lane small ghat and New one have tunnels which are 1400 meters long. Other one is Khambataki Ghat which is a big one. Now the new tunnel is constructed for the Upward going  lane.

The NH4 route!

National Highway No.4 or Asian Highway 17 runs between Pune and Bangalore. This is a part of “Golden Quadrilateral” project which connects All the four major cities of India. Those are Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Today acvording to Asian Highway Network this highway is numbered as Asian Highway 17. This highway is also a part of NH48 which runs between Delhi and Chennai. Some part of the highaway is 6 lane and rest other is 4 lane!
